In the downloads area of the Writing4Success Club (click on the 'DOWNLOADS' link in the right-hand menu) you'll find a 30 minute podcast that is the result of an interview with Libby-Jane Charleston, a journalist and mother of 3 young children who works from home. You can read more about Libby-Jane in the Author Bio section of this website.

Libby wears many writing hats, which you'll hear about in the podcast, but in this interview she talks specifically about her novel LIGHT SWEET CRUDE.

This is a recently-published thriller that has been described by author Sydney Bauer as: "Fast, funny and clever."  He further describes Light Sweet Crude as "both a thinking person's thriller and a guilty pleasure." Now that DOES sound inviting - so in our chat to Libby-Jane, we find out more.

In the interview, you'll hear about:

  • Where Libby-Jane got the idea for her novel about the manipulative, murdering lawyer, Bradley Light
  • How she came up with the character of Bradley Light
  • Who is her favourite character in the book
  • How Libby combined the elements of dark tragedy and humour (Who else do you know who has invented her own genre? And what is 'CLASH' writing???)
  • How she went about plotting her novel, and what kind of rewrites and tweaks she did after getting feedback
  • Some insights into the process of writing and plotting that Libby gained from writing this novel
  • When she started to market her novel, and some anecdotes about her journey to publication (would YOU be prepared to contact 300 agents and publishers?)
  • What activities Libby is undertaking to promote her book now that it has been published
  • Libby's career plans
  • Comments on whether it is possible to write both good fiction AND good non-fiction
  • Some final words of advice for writers who have yet to be published.
