Is It Writer's Block, or Is It Depression...
Marg McAlister
All writers have been there: those days when you sit at the computer and nothing will come. The odd day or so doesn't really matter: frustrating, yes; an ongoing problem, no. It's when this goes on for days or weeks at a time that we start to worry. Is this writer's block...or something more serious? . . . keep reading

A Writer through Thick and Thin:
how to make the most of the emotional grist when life turns pear shaped
Robyn Haynes
I am sure you must have heard people say 'Life can change in the blink of an eye'. I thought I understood what was meant by this expression. But understanding something on an intellectual level is quite different from knowing it intimately through experience. When my husband became critically ill, I was surprised to find myself experiencing two distinct types of observation; an outer, objective kind, which observes the life that takes place around us; and an inner, more subjective kind, which scrutinises the emotional life roiling within everyone... . . . keep reading

We may not live to see our work published but we can live in hope. Our masterpieces can sit quietly in an attic for years where, perhaps centuries later, they will be rediscovered. Having been discovered, they may delight an audience as yet unheard of. Try doing that with a cake... . . . keep reading

Motivating Yourself to Write
Marg McAlister
You cannot motivate yourself to do anything that's hard work: losing weight, going to the gym, painting the house, weeding the garden, doing your taxes... they're not fun. What you can do is work out a system for getting yourself what you want. And when you are creating that system, you have to recognise the fact that the rewards have to be greater than the pain, or you won't do it. We spend our lives trying to avoid pain and to seek out that which is pleasurable... . . . keep reading
